Winner of many domestic and international awards, Gourmet Club (2004), directed by Juha Wuolijoki, is a story of a small but exclusive club with the mission of providing the members with taste-bud-shattering experiences. Eventually, testing of the culinary boundaries has to take place, and hunger only increases while eating as the way to gastronomy’s experimental core has a few unexpected ups and downs.
Gourmet Club aired on the Finnish YLE TV1 in November 2004. Consequently, the film was awarded the Venla, the Finnish equivalent of the Emmy. The black comedy has toured film festivals on five continents. The film received the award for Best Screenplay at the 47th Monte Carlo Television Festival and was selected by the YLE network to compete at the prestigious Prix Italia in Milan. In 2005, Gourmet Club received the Finnish State Quality Award.
