Bollywood film Shamitabh shot partly in Finland released worldwide


Shamitabh, directed and written by R. Balki (Paa, Cheeni Kum), the first ever Bollywood film shot partly in Finland, had its world premiere last weekend. The film proved to be a critical and box office success in India where the opening weekend gross was EURO 2.7 million.

Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush are starring. Juha Wuolijoki’s Snapper Films was in charge of the production during the shooting in Finland. Finnish crew members included two time Jussi Award winning cinematographer Peter Flinckenberg.

Snapper Films is a Helsinki, New York and Los Angeles -based production and distribution company founded by Juha Wuolijoki in 1998. The latest Snapper Films production is Zarra’s Law, a crime drama set in New York starring Tony Sirico(The Sopranos), Brendan Fehr (The Night Shift) and Academy Award nominatedBurt Young (Rocky). The English-language feature is directed by Juha Wuolijoki and jointly produced by Snapper Films and Scarpe Diem Productions. Other titles include the family feature Christmas Story that was the top-grossing Finnish film of 2007 and has spread wider than any other Finnish live-action feature. The film, directed by Juha Wuolijoki, has sold to 120 countries with theatrical releases in several territories including China.
